WEEK IN BRIEF 27 December, 2010 - 1 January, 2011

Quote for the Week
"Our patience will achieve more than our force." – Edmund Burke

At times no matter what you do or how you do it, some things will just not work out - at least not immediately. This is where patience comes in – a little time and observation. It does not just mean waiting doing nothing. It's all about having control; taking action and pursuing your goal, trying as much as you can to make progress. Then, you wait for the result. After all, as the proverb goes ‘all good things come to those who wait’.

Celebrating Christmas in its True Meaning

As you all know, Christmas season is the time for sharing and giving with all your heart. IPSRians at the Kottayam branch had a tradition of exchanging gifts with their ‘Christmas Friend’ and had great fun at that, but this time round the old tradition took a back seat and a new practice came into play.

Dr. Mendus Jacob, in his Christmas message, talked about a social project conducted for the children of the Panakkachira village in Idukki. This social project is conducted by the Malanadu Grama Vikas under the leadership of Dr. C. Abraham Thomas, at the Govt. U.P School, for the educational upliftment of the children in the village. The children are all part of financially poor families and are provided sessions for developing their learning skills at their school. They are also provided free breakfast by the Grama Vikas Society. Many academicians from various educational institutions including Dr. Mendus Jacob are already volunteering in this social project. As of now children studying in the 5th to 7th standards are participating in these sessions. All these kids aspire to excel in their studies and make their dreams come true. Getting to use a computer system and to learn more about it is their biggest wish now.

Dr. Mendus Jacob urged the staff members of IPSR Kottayam branch to stand up for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and celebrate Christmas in its true meaning. He requested the staff members to join him in making a contribution towards the purchase of a computer system for the Panakkachira Govt. U.P School children. Consequently, a Christmas Charity Fund was set up and all staff members have been contributing to charity instead of spending the money on gifts.

The staff members at the Kottayam branch have set an example for all other IPSRians to follow, thereby making IPSR a more socially responsible corporate. The Fund is still open and we encourage contributions from the staff members of the other IPSR branches too.

WEEK IN BRIEF 20 - 25 December, 2010

Quote for the Week
"There are those who give with joy, and that joy is their reward." – Kahlil Gibran

Opportunities to give to others are always around us. The joy one gets from giving is like no other. Just the realization that you have made someone’s day creates a warm fuzzy feeling inside you.
Giving need not necessarily comprise of gifts; it can also be a kind word, a noble gesture, a smile or just being there for someone in their hour of need. But the best thing you can give someone is your time…

WEEK IN BRIEF 13 - 18 December, 2010

Quote for the Week
"A smile is the universal welcome." - Max Eastman

A smile is the universal ice-breaker. It is one of the most welcoming and warmest gestures there is. It relieves stress, elevates our mood, makes us appear younger and helps us live longer. The best smile is a genuine one that reaches your eyes. If you don’t feel like smiling today, just smile anyway. You’ll notice the difference. Not only does it make you feel good, it makes those around you happy as well.
Remember, a smile is infectious, so go infect someone.

WEEK IN BRIEF 6 - 11 December, 2010

Quote for the Week
Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.” – Buddha

There is no need to debate over whether anger is good or bad; it’s quite simple actually. It’s confusing, definitely unpleasant and eventually leaves us feeling quite awkward.
But doesn’t everyone get angry? Yes, but it is up to the individual to tell apart the good anger from the bad anger. There’s no need to suppress it, just try to stay calm and put your thoughts forward calmly and clearly.
Like someone once said, anger is one letter short of danger. So be careful...

WEEK IN BRIEF 29 November - 4 December, 2010

Quote for the Week
"Failure is success if we learn from it." - Malcolm Forbes

No one likes failure. It mars your self esteem, bruises your confidence and crushes your ego; it just makes you feel BAD. But then, does failure have anything to do with success?
If you analyze where you have gone wrong, the next time you will refrain from making the same mistake and will do better; then, as they say, failure will indeed become your stepping stone to success. You must also take time once in a while to take stock of your successes. That way your letdowns won’t seem so significant anymore.
