His number came up in the weekly draw of the Golden Jubilee Social Projects Scheme by Kottayam Merchant Association. Incidentally, IPSR HQ at Kottayam is situated in the Merchant Association Building at M.L. Road and we at IPSR share a very cordial relationship with members of the Association.

The Kottayam Merchant Association is celebrating its Golden Jubilee and to mark the occasion, chose to take up various social projects during the year. To generate funds, leaders of the Merchant Association came up with an innovative idea, which also ensured the participation of Association Members, Well Wishers and general public.
A special scheme was charted out, where the participants are required to shell in Rs. 100 every week, for 100 weeks. At the end of the scheme, every non-defaulter member shall receive Rs. 9400/- back. There shall be a weekly draw and one lucky winner receives the final amount and is waived from further payment of installments.
The scheme is an intelligent modification of the ‘chit schemes’ prevailing in Kerala – it gives less burden to the well wishers and at the same time helps Kottayam Merchant Association to raise considerable funds for its Golden Jubilee Social Projects.
The project has about 1600 participants and is going strong. As part of the project, a water cooler has been installed in KSRTC Bus Station, Kottayam and other projects are in the pipeline.
IPSR takes this opportunity to wish Kottayam Merchant Association and its members all success, during the Golden Jubilee and for years ahead.
