WEEK IN BRIEF: 15-20 August, 2011

Quote for the Week:
The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance - it is the illusion of knowledge.-Daniel.J.Boorstin
Human civilization has made incalculable progress throughout the past centuries. Where did this unfathomable growth come from? Through the endless number of inventions and breakthroughs of course. Every discovery or finding comes from a passion or wish to learn more. When one thinks that he/ she has learnt enough and has gained enough knowledge, there ends the path to a new discovery. We should never stop learning. Our brains will never become ‘saturated’ with knowledge. The more we EXPLORE into the unknown the more we gain. So always keep an OPEN mind, READY for more knowledge.

WEEK IN BRIEF: 1-6 August, 2011

Quote for the Week:
We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak.-Epictetus

Listening forms the base of every conversation. Good listening is vital when critical issues are being discussed, say in meetings, committees or in sales where you want to grab a deal from your customer. If we are not paying attention to what a person is saying, the conversation will have no meaning and will come to an abrupt end. There can even be misunderstandings, arguments and unwanted conflicts in such situations. Only when we listen to the other person will we be able to respond aptly. We should give a chance for the person on the other end to talk too. But again passively listening to what the other person has to say won’t complete the process. Active listening helps you register the information you hear in your mind and respond genuinely. No wonder LISTENING is considered a SKILL nowadays.
