Week In Brief.. 22nd to 27th October 2012

The story of the pencil
By PAULO COELHO on DECEMBER 19, 2009
Source: “Like the Flowing River” by Paulo Coelho

A boy was watching his grandmother write a letter. At one point he asked: “Are you writing a story about what we’ve done? Is it a story about me?” His grandmother stopped writing her letter and said to her grandson: “I am writing about you, actually, but more important than the words is the pencil I’m using. I hope you will be like this pencil when you grow up.” Intrigued, the boy looked at the pencil. It didn't seem very special. “But it’s just like any other pencil I've ever seen!”

Grand Mother Said “That depends on how you look at things. It has five qualities which, if you manage to hang on them, will make you a person who is always at peace with the world.”

‘First quality: Pencil can write anything, but it can’t do it alone, it needs a hand to move it… you are capable of great things, but you must never forget that there is a hand guiding your steps. We call that hand God, and He always guides us according to His will.’

Second quality: now and then, I have to stop writing and use a sharpener. That makes the pencil suffer a little, but afterwards, he’s much sharper. So you, too, must learn to bear certain pains and sorrows, because they will make you a better person.

‘Third quality: the pencil always allows us to use an eraser to rub out any mistakes. This means that correcting something we did is not necessarily a bad thing; it helps to keep us on the road to justice.’

‘Fourth quality: what really matters in a pencil is not its wooden exterior, but the graphite inside. So always pay attention to what is happening inside you.’

Finally, the pencil’s fifth quality: it always leaves a mark. in just the same way, you should know that everything you do in life will leave a mark, so try to be conscious of that in your every action’

"Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and charm and gaiety to life and everything"-Plato

You will be wondering why I am talking about music???Well, this week we are sharing about a person who is passionate about music.
Mr. Mohammed Shafnaz Hamza, Consultant Technical Services, IPSR Trivandrum team. He was fond of developing Apps in Android. Nothing limits him when he is talking about Android and he is curious about researching on Android. As a professional, Shafnaz is a person who has his own principles and ethics in whatever he does. As a friend he is a very reliable person whom you can approach at any time.
Besides his profession, he is passionate about music. Quoting him "Music is one of my parts, like my ribs, kidney, liver, heart. Like my blood, it is a force that is already within me"…  Though not properly trained in music, he himself discovered his god gifted talent in music…He is a very good singer and he has done music direction for a handful of songs which he currently sings in his band.
During his school days he had won many prizes for light music, mapilla pattu, tabulae, drama, mime English and Malayalam recitations. He was the district Kalaprathiba in the year 2003.Also he used to write poems in Malayalam and had won prizes for that too.

It was while his studies in Model Polytechnic College he met his friend Dhanesh which turned out be turning point in his life…Dhanesh wrote lyrics for Shafnaz…and together they did their first creation…a prayer song for the college with Shafnaz’s music and his friend’s lyrics…From then there was no stopping…During his Btech @Sree Chithira Thirunaal College, he was elected as the arts club secretary…It was that time, when he formed his musical band “SAPTAK”, which still keeps on performing across Kerala…Shafnaz  & his band have won many prizes in various inter college fests…

Shafnaz and his band were not ready to settle down for anything small…and they literally proved it…by creating the theme music for Kochi Tuskers Kerala…Kerala’s very own IPL Team… Yes friends it was Shafnaz who did the music direction for their theme song…Great Going Shafnaz…!!!!! But Shafnaz wants to be a famous singer than a music director and for that he is continuing his music classes from NatBrahmam @ Trivandrum…Hope your dream comes true…!!!

As of Shafnaz, he says "Android App development is my profession and Music is my passion. I want my profession to fulfill my passion".

The SAPTAK
Let's wish him all the best and May he fulfill his dream of being a famous singer that world has ever seen!!!!!

Two More Golden Feathers to IPSR's RED HAT CROWN!!!!

Week In Brief 8th to 13th October 2012

Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections”

Happiness begins when you let go. When you allow life to happen, instead of trying to control it, you begin to become free. In that freedom, it is so much easier to find happiness than it is when you try to force things. So relax, and allow life to have its little imperfections. If you are constantly striving for perfection, you’re doing more than most. However, if you’re expecting perfection, you will likely be miserable, as few things are ever even remotely close to perfect. At least that’s how it has been in my life. How about yours? It’s easy in this fast paced life of ours to get all wrapped up in everything that has to happen, and all that needs to be accomplished. It is also easy to get overly concerned with perfection. Yes, we all want to do our best work, but none of us are perfect. How often do we get upset because something didn’t work out exactly the way we wanted? Even if the result was fairly close, we get upset. Upset usually leads to discontent, which then takes us to unhappiness. Imperfect equals unhappy? Does that sound like a great way to live your life?
Imperfect is part of life. It is part of humanity. It is all around us, and it is within us. Trying to force perfection, or to expect it to occur in this lifetime, that’s just not very realistic, is it? While we might strive to achieve more, understand that we will fall short far too often.
What in your life is causing you stress? What can you do to let go of some of that stress? What can you do to stop putting perfection between you and happiness? Even if it’s a small step, every little bit helps. Try something today, and see if you can’t get a little closer to happiness tonight

Week In Brief 1st to 6th October 2012

"If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters. Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude.”–Charles R. Swindoll

As kids we all would have got an excellent remark from our teachers or parents which made us feel proud of ourselves like we have done something good that made us stand out of the crowd. When looking at this definition of the word excellence though it makes you really think. Can we, with certainty, look at all areas of our life and compare it to the word “excellent”? I believe that excellence is something that we should all be striving for daily in every aspect of our lives.
We should ask ourselves, when making any decisions, whether in our personal lives or for our companies,”is this unusually good, surpassing ordinary standards”? To achieve excellence you must require more of yourself, going above and beyond the bare essentials.
Excellence can truly be accomplished in every aspect of our lives and it is a standard we should hold in our families and companies too, but, it all starts with YOU!
I end this with this challenge, push yourself to seek excellence in not only the easy areas of life but in the difficult areas…achieving excellence in the hard times will develop integrity and character that makes you stand out from the ordinary!

Hmmm…This week when I was thinking of whom to talk about for the column, many names went through my mind…But then I thought when I have the MCR of Career Centre sitting in the cabin next to mine why should I go searching …then Subin V also told guess he will be a good option.

Dileep says that during his studies abroad he had worked in many different roles from a newspaper boy to Team Leader in almost 15+ companies and adds that this has given him lot of confidence and helped him to understand different kind of work conditions and people.
Dileep has a high level of interest towards sports especially football and has participated in matches during his college and school life. His passion towards games is evident from the thing that Dileep, Arjun and others turn our Lunch Room to a Shuttle Court in the evenings…Guess who gave such a Fab idea??? Talking about Dileeps hobbies he paints and draws, but unfortunately he doesn’t have a copy to show here today…
“Once we have assigned him a Job, then assume it’s done. Doesn't need much follow Ups, Like a light house, he is Silent, but does the job perfectly. Has a Positive Attitude towards
everything…” These are the words that his Team Lead Brijesh Sir told about him…A very punctual person…Colleagues here say that you want a thing done then Dileep is your man…very friendly and helpful…and will find him in the forefront for all activities…Hmmm…so now you know whom to call for help here

Week in brief 24-29 September 2012

“The secret of life…is to fall seven times and to get up eight times.”
 - Paulo Coelho, from The Alchemist

There will not be a single person who has not faced failure in their life’s…But in the rare case if you have not guess you did not try anything different in your life…sometime one failure is more than enough to be a good lesson and we do it right the next time… but sometimes we fail and fail and fail…So what do you do next??? Leave it and say “I CANNOT” Then you are a coward…Because if Thomas Alva Edison had stopped experimenting because of the setbacks he had (it seems he had failed more than 100 times) one of the world’s greatest invention would not have happened… Even though we are no Edison or Einstein, or we don’t have any great inventions for the world we have a life to live and don’t you want it to be successful one??? Sure you do…Just one thing to do...Every time you fail be brave, Stand up and Say” I Will Try Again… I will do it…I Will Succeed” and then you will find yourself as a “WINNER”!!!!!!!!!!
