WEEK IN BRIEF- 23-28 August, 2010
Quote for the Week:
The world idolizes Helen Keller for her undaunted spirit of perseverance and her utmost faith in herself. She is an example of extreme courage and self confidence. What kept her going despite of being deaf and blind? There were many instances in her life where she felt dismayed and on the verge of utter despair but she always got over it through positive thinking. Look straight at the sun shining with the rays of hope on you and then the shadows will only be cast behind you. Always look at the bright side of life; ignore all the negatives and you will be a happier and successful person.

WEEK IN BRIEF- 16-21 August, 2010
Quote for the Week:
“Minds are like parachutes-they only function when they are open”- Lord Thomas Dewar
We all know that parachutes are life savers when it comes to mid-air accidents or major air force operations. But if the parachute doesn’t open in time, it could become a bringer of death. It is in this context that the metaphor comes in. Keeping an open mind will help us in gaining and accepting ideas from others. Open mind leads to constructive thoughts and actions rather than destructive ones. If we are narrow-minded, we will end up being restricted and hopeless. Thus an open mind can give a totally new outlook on life.

WEEK IN BRIEF-09-14August, 2010
Quote for the Week:
“No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it”- H.E.Luccock
A symphony orchestra usually has nearly a hundred musicians over its roster. The beauty and success of a symphony lies in the hands of each and every member of the orchestra. Even if a single instrument goes out of rhythm, it affects the music. Whether in an orchestra or in a workplace, effective teamwork can produce incredible results. Respecting fellow human beings, treating them fairly, disagreeing with honesty, enjoying the friendship, working together towards a common goal and helping one another to achieve it –all make up the essence of a successful team. Team work is simply the fuel that allows common people attain uncommon results.

It is the day all Indian citizens can cherish proudly. On the occasion of our 64th Independence Day, let us all salute those brave leaders who fought for our freedom and also renew our spirit of patriotism to this great country. Jai Hind!!

“The oyster turns into pearl the sand which annoys it.”- Sidney Newton Bremer
The process by which an oyster makes pearl is very interesting and peculiar in nature. When a sand particle enters into its shell it causes great irritation to the oyster. It cannot get rid of this particle in any possible way. So the only option is to bear with it. Now how does the oyster do that? By slowly coating this sand particle with smooth layers of a secretion called mother of pearl. Thus the tiny grain of sand finally becomes a beautiful and precious pearl. The quote points out that we can turn every obstacle, every roadblock that we encounter in our life into something meaningful. For this we have to accept reality and face it with all the courage that we have.
